Welcome to my website.  I love teaching and enjoy
every minute of it.  For seven years I taught in a
regular classroom. The 2008-2009 school year I began
a very new journey.  I am currently the Discovery Lab
Director for 4th and 5th grades at Grenada Upper
Elementary.  I have close to 700 students.  Students
come to the Discovery Lab every other week and stay
for 75 minutes.  During that time we have FUN
learning about Science. The units are based on the
state curriculum, but do not follow a text book. The
lab is a time for students to experience hands on
learning.  Activities in the lab compliment what
teachers are teaching in their classrooms. The lab
brings Science to life
.

Discovery Lab
Gaining Understanding through Exciting Investigations in Science

The students in the Discovery Lab will become investigators this school
year.  They will begin by investigating
Under the Sea with emphasis on animals
chosen by the students. In order to figure out what really is out there the
students will next investigate things
Out of This World.  Upon returning the
students will focus on
Planet Earth looking at its' structure and weather.
Ending their investigations this year they will face a crime scene that only
good scientist can solve.  Through the
CSI unit the students will investigate
evidence and solve a mystery.

Each unit will require the students to become investigators, problem solvers
and critical thinkers.  We will search for evidence, make predictions for the
future and try to find reasons for past events. There will be a new unit every
nine weeks.  Each unit will have an overall theme with interrelated objectives
from Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science from the
Mississippi Science Framework.

Students will explore structure and function in living systems, reproduction
and heredity, behavior, populations and ecosystems, diversity, and
adaptations of organisms. Students will investigate properties and changes of
properties in matter, motions, forces, transfer of energy, structure of the
Earth system, Earth’s history, and Earth in the solar system. Throughout the
teaching process, inquiry, safety skills, the scientific method process,
measuring, use of scientific equipment, current events, environmental
factors, and hands-on activities will be emphasized. (MSF 2010)
